The Boys and Girls Empowerment Group's Safety Day stands as a beacon of hope and resilience, especially in light of the violence that has plagued many Black leaders in Vallejo, including my own harrowing experience. The attack on my life by a twenty year-old struggling with complex issues, This youth dd not receive the consistent support he desperately needed. On June 10, 2024, at approximately 11 a.m., this young man attacked me with a box cutter in the parking lot on Sonoma and Redwood. While I am fortunate to be expected to make a near full recovery, this incident has left an indelible mark on my spirit, compelling me to reflect on the critical need for community based organizations like The Boys and Girls Empowerment Group and Vallejo Project.
