Saturday, May 11, 2024, 1:00pm-3:30pm the public is invited to join Captain Ronn Patterson, Marine Biologist and owner/operator of Dolphin Charters and Myrna Hayes, President of the Mare Island Heritage Trust and regional River Guide for a 2.5-hour boat trip on the Napa River highlighting the rather recent phenomenon of osprey nesting on San Francisco Bay. The boat trip had to be rescheduled last minute, from the traditional morning departure to the afternoon departure time. Vessels berthed at the Vallejo Marina are having more difficulty leaving or returning to the Marina due to a build up of mud and lack of regularly scheduled dredging. Once in the River/Strait passengers will have the opportunity to travel along the Mare Island shore to observe osprey incubating eggs, possibly feeding young, guarding nests and soaring in the sky above, aboard Dolphin Charters' River Dolphin for a cost of $45 per person. The boat trip will continue up the Napa River to observe what appear to be new nest sites that may be expanding from where the pairs were first hatched at Mare Island. The outing requires advanced registration and leaves from the Vallejo Marina Guest Dock K. For reservations call 510-527-9622 or 800-472-9942 or visit Dolphincharters.com Participants are encouraged to bring their own lunches, snacks and refreshments aboard, if they wish.
