Mari started singing as a toddler, indoctrinated with love for jazz and big band by her father; and blues, rock, and R&B from her older siblings. Before the age of 18, she was paying her dues in clubs all over the NY area. After a post-gig auto accident that totaled her car and left her without a scratch, she thanked her lucky stars and took it as a sign to make a change in her lifestyle. "I was very lonely, my family was fractured, and my mom lived in San Francisco, so I packed my bags and headed out west. I figured that I would just stay there for a few weeks and then head down to LA, but fate had other plans." She now lives in Northern California.
Mari is a powerhouse singer who can belt out the blues or soothe you with soft, sultry jazzy tones. Her latest album, “Can’t Go Back”, featuring the single “Birthday Suit”, features the performances of some of the Bay Area’s finest musicians including Alan Hertz and Eric Levy from Garaj Mahal, Ernest "Boom" Carter, John Lee Sanders, and two cuts with the band Sonia Dada, a soulful gospel/rock group from Chicago who were recording their album in Sausalito during the production of “Can’t Go Back.”
