Founders Day: "Behind the Fences" Bus Tour

  • Savage and Cooke Distillery 1097 Nimitz Avenue Vallejo, CA, 94592 United States (map)

Join us on Friday, Sept 15th for an exclusive, VIP, luxury bus, "Behind the Fences” experience on Mare Island, begins 5:30pm at Savage & Cooke Distillery 1097 Nimitz Ave, Mare Island, CA 94592.

For this two-hour tour, we’ve gotten special permission to take you into locations and buildings that are not otherwise open to visitors. See the “Pink Palace” where clandestine operations were hatched during the Cold War, experience the B271 "Industrial Cathedral" where full-sized wooden models of submarines were built, and we’ll walk through B116, where the Wendy the Welders gathered every day during WW2. We’ll drive a lap of the Island, including the Cemetery, to complete the deep dive into history. On the bus is a TV screen where we can show photos of these buildings and their activities in their heydays as you see them with your own eyes in the present day.

Event begins at 5:30PM at Savage & Cooke distillery, where S&C has a complimentary "history cocktail" waiting for you. Bus/tour departs at 6PM, and includes a free glass of Champagne (this is a "luxury" tour!). Anticipated arrival back at 8PM. Expect approximately a quarter mile of walking on the tour. $75/ticket, no discounts as all proceeds benefit and support the Foundation’s ongoing operations.
